The Targeteers showroom on Route 46

The family story

Three generations. One counter.

Targeteers has been family owned and operated on Route 46 since 1957.

  1. Three men behind the counter of the original shop

    1957

A bow shop opens on Route 46.

Archery in New Jersey was a smaller world then. A shop that could sell equipment was one thing. A shop with a bench, and somebody at it who could read a badly flying arrow, was another.

What got built here was the second kind. That is the whole reason there is still a shop here sixty-nine years later.

    The 1990s

Rob buys the business from his father.

By then Rob had already been in archery for twenty-odd years. Buying a business from your father is not the same transaction as buying one from a stranger. The inventory changes hands and the standards do not.

The rule that no bow leaves this shop without being looked over twice was not Rob’s invention. He inherited it, the way you inherit a way of holding a tool.

  3. Rob Cerone Jr. in the pro shop

    2020

Fifty years in the archery business.

2020 marked Rob’s fiftieth year in the trade. Along the way: Hoyt Top 50 Dealer awards, Mathews Top 100 Dealer awards, and East Coast Dealer of the Year from Archery Business Magazine.

He is a USA Archery Level 3 NTS Certified instructor, and he has spent that half century helping people shoot better rather than spend more.

  4. Working on a bow at the service bench

    Today

Eleven lanes, and a hundred and thirty kids a summer.

The range is indoors, air conditioned, and shoots out to twenty-seven yards. Leagues run all season. Camp fills up and turns families away at the door.

The equipment on the wall would be unrecognisable to the men in the first photograph. The bench, and what happens at it, would not.

Meet Rob

Rob Cerone Jr.

Third generation behind this counter, and in the archery business since 1970.

Rob is a USA Archery Level 3 NTS Certified instructor. He has helped thousands of people follow their archery dreams, on the range and in the woods, and he collected a good number of awards of his own before he ever ran the shop.

Sixty-five years of family hunting experience sits behind the counter with him, most of it after North American big game. British Columbia, the Yukon, and a lot of ground in between. If you are planning a trip, he is the conversation you want.

For the ones who taught us to aim true.

Every bow that leaves this shop is looked over twice. That habit didn’t start with us. It started with a grandfather who opened the doors in 1957 and a father who kept them open for the next forty years, and who taught a kid named Rob that the customer’s shot matters more than the sale.

We still work under their photographs. We still do it their way.
